I wouldnt get mods that make the AI cheat even more, its a cheap and (in my opinion) bad way to make the game more challenging. Means larger armies, the appreance of elite units (mostly unmodded) and better military infrastructure. Sure the player themself is stronger too, but the AI has a bigger economy which snowballs well with their economic cheats they have on almost all difficulties. In my experience a large map with only 5-7 players makes each individual player so much stronger. One last thing would be to give the AI room to expand. OR you could fiddle with the map itself, maybe set more volcanic tiles or overall make one terrain type dominant. Only when you really mastered the races, secret techs and other game mechanics (especially the tactical combat) the AI can start to be a real pushover.Įven then there are many ways to make the game more challenging though: In advanced options you can set NPC factions to be quite aggessive, you can enable tough invasions (if you have the DLC) that are super hard on normal or high strenght setting. For the beginning the AI especially on higher difficulties is actually quite challenging.
Play the game for a bit on higher difficulties(not highest), then you might try some AI mods if you find it easy Hello, I can only agree with this post, its just about you having fun in the game.
